Alexandra Mavrikis is an artist and researcher at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN. They earned their MFA in Applied Design, with a focus on Woodworking & Furniture Design, from San Diego State University in 2024. Their work questions the utility of mass-produced objects in a post-capitalist society. By focusing on sculptural furniture that impedes comfort and familiar activities, she interrogates ideas of women being providers of comfort in the home through craft. Mavrikis questions the necessity of utility in the objects in our homes. Their work has been shown nationally at Arrowmont School of Art & Crafts (Gatlinburg, TN), Materials Hard & Soft (Denton, TX), and Claremont College (CA).
